Really?! No For Real.....

Things in Life Don't Make Sense
When you have 40 percent of kids being born out of wedlock, and among certain ethnic groups the vast majority being born out of wedlock, you ask yourself, how are we going to have a society in the future? Because these kids are raised in poverty in many cases, they’re in abusive settings. The likelihood of them being able to finish high school or college drops dramatically in single-family homes. And we haven’t been willing to talk about this.

Mitt Romney, at Wednesday’s CNN debate in Arizona.

Hey, you know what prevents unwanted pregnancy? This.

Love the insinuation that poverty IS child abuse. And the racism. That throwaway remark is quite possibly one of the worst things to come out of last night’s debate.

I could say more, but Elon James White said it much better than I ever could:

I salute you, sir.

“The problem of unemployment is not the only problem,” King said. “There is a problem of underemployment, and there are thousands and thousands, I would say millions of people in the Negro community who are poverty-stricken – not because they are not working, but because they receive wages so low that they cannot begin to function in the main stream of the economic life of our nation. Most of the poverty-stricken people of America are persons who are working every day, and they end up getting part-time wages for full-time work.”  - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!! Here is just some food for thought about some lesser known thoughts of MLK.

  • According to a November 2011 report by the nonprofit Feeding America, which includes a nationwide network of some 200 food banks, one in five of America’s children are at risk of not having enough nutritious food to eat. For Hispanic and African-American children, the statistic is one in three.
  • The prevalence of poverty is higher for minorities – 27.4% of African Americans were living in poverty in 2010, according to Census data. For Latinos, the figure was 26.6%, and for Asians it was 12.1 percent. Nearly 10% of whites lived beneath the poverty line.
  • Poverty is generally defined as earning $22,314 per year for a family of four. A person working 40 hours per week at the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour earns $15,080 per year, gross. According to the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies, childcare alone can cost anywhere from $3,582 to $18,773 per year.
  •  An Indiana University white paper released last Wednesday and prepared at the request of Dr. Cornel West and public television host Tavis Smiley, examined the impact of the recession on poverty and near-poverty in America. “At Risk: America’s Poor During and After the Great Recession,” concluded that the number of long-term unemployed between December 2007 and June 2009 was the highest since the government began recording such figures in 1948. “By the third quarter of 2011, 4.4 million people (32% of the 14 million people out of work) informed surveyors that they had been without work for more than a year,” the report said.
  • Using the official federal definition, 15.1% of the population is living in poverty – 46.2 million people. Using a supplemental measure that takes into account the geographical differences in cost of living, the number rises to 16%.

Taken from the Honest Girl Scouts campaign. For a campaign trying to get people /not/ to buy cookies and /not/ support the GSUSA, this is doing an awful lot to suddenly make me want /to/ support the GSUSA. (and I’m saying this a a former Girl Scout of about 6 years who hasn’t bought cookies in years because they’re too expensive).

I see so much acceptance here, and especially in a time in children’s lives where acceptance is so important, taking that away from them is just cruel.

I do deserve to know what Girl Scout cookies fund. And they deserve to have my money to support their pinko commie radicalism. Delicious, delicious radicalism.
Also I really enjoy that providing good and information-based sex education is supposed to be a negative point.

Oh gds, I love the scare quotes around the sex ed parts. LOVE.

Ooh. Unfortunately, what I’ve taken from this is “BUY MOAR COOKIES”. Okay. Okay. Too bad the adorable Scouts next door moved away with their hoard of cookies and precious little merit badges.

Honestly this just makes me want to be even less stingy with my cash when I buy cookies. I may well end up with a freezer full this year because “IT’S FOR CHARITY”.

I never bought GS cookies before but now I’m going to make sure to buy a few boxes and recommend them to others.  My aunt has worked for GS for a really long time, so I know how to get to the cookies.  THE COOKIES.

going to make sure to spread the word and support them!

Do you know when cookies come around? I wanna order some.

BUY ALL THE COOKIES!!!

I Always liked girl scout cookies. Now I really cant wait to buy them.

23 years. We finished it, financed it myself, and I figured, you know, I could get prints and ads paid for by the studios, and that they would release it. I showed it to all of them and they said ‘No. we don’t know how to market a movie like this.’ …It’s because it’s an all-black movie. There’s no major white roles in it at all. It’s one of the first all-black action pictures ever made.

Red Tails executive producer GEORGE LUCAS, on why it took more than two decades for his latest film to hit movie theatres, on The Daily Show.

For shame, Hollywood.

(via inothernews) Not surprised…go see it ppl!

(via gintel)

I encourage everyone to go see this movie for this reason alone. If you’re complaining about Tyler Perry movies, and you’re complaining about stereotypical roles for actors of color…… this is something you can put your money behind and feel good.

How much money this film makes in theaters is something that matters, because if it bombs the studios are going to say, “I told you so…”, and that will be their justification for continuing the same pattern of behavior they’ve displayed for the last 30 years.

This is Soooooo worth reading to the

end…dont let the long text discourage you, its truley worth it…………Enjoy

It seems that an article was written to Sister 2 Sister magazine by a Caucasian woman who requested a response from black men. I’m so glad she got what sheasked for…

BLACK WALL STREET is not a record label started by The Game.

Black Wall Street was the most prosperous black community in America during the 1920’s located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was known as “Little Africa” or “Black Beverly Hills”, a prime example of racial nationalism. To put into perspective of how money flowed in Black Wall Street, a dollar took 365 DAYS to leave the community, now a dollar leaves an African American Community every 15 MINUTES. The community had hundreds of businesses all negro owned and their motto was “To educate every child”.  June 1, 1921 white supremacists bombed BLACK WALL STREET and killed more than 300 people and destroyed over 600 businesses. 21 churches, 21 restaurants, 30 grocery stores, a hospital, bank, post office, and most schools were destroyed. The dead were buried in unmarked graves. It wasn’t till 1997 that Oklahoma decided to pass the “1921 Race Riot Reconciliation Act” which provided decedents of that area a free college education.

SMH AT AMERICAN HISTORY READ THIS. They for sure aren’t teaching this in school. Tell your babies. Share with your students.

For all those “BOOTSTRAPS” bastards.

Things they dont teach you in school…. surprising…. NOPE!

“CBS points out that only nine percent of Iowans on food stamps are black — and 84 percent are white. Nationally, 39 percent of welfare recipients are white, 37 percent are black, and 17 percent are Hispanic. So Santorum’s decision to single out black welfare recipients plays right into insulting — and inaccurate — stereotypes of the kind of people some voters might expect to want a “handout.”

The story of my life

(via towardperpetualpeaceofmind)

Alright, so I have been trying to find a non offensive way to expressess my disgust with people this month. Apparently it was deemed Fuck Poor Black Kids Month as a series of statements and articles have been released directed at poor people as well as minorities. While trying to find the most politically correct and polite way to to express myself, I realized that this was not going to be possible. So I’m giving anyone reading this a WARNING. If you are white and/or rich and/or privileged and are easily offended….. STOP READING NOW. Continuing to read after that previous sentence means that you are willing to risk getting your feelings hurt because I will have no mercy.

First things first…… FUCK RICH WHITE PEOPLE. The fact that they can sit around and think that they know what its like to be poor or to be a minority and come up with these bullshit ass thoughts, articles, ideas and policies is bullshit. For example, the article written by Gene Marks entitled If I Was A Poor Black Kid  This upper middle class man had the audacity to write an article about him pretending to be a poor black child. Not only did he decide to play a game of make believe but then this asshole decided to make suggestions on how a poor black child can get ahead in school and life if he/she tries his/her hardest, uses the resources available such as the library, technology, guidance counselors, scholarships, grants ect. FUCK OUT OF HERE!!!! I can guarantee that this idiot has never been within 3 miles of a inner city library which in this economies are struggling to stay floating above the water or an inner city school where there are barely enough teachers let alone guidance counselors which are considered a luxury.

Then there is Newt Gingrich’s old ass. Who suggests that poor children and their families have no work ethic and should be janitors in their school….. Whoopi does a good job of explaining how I feel about this one…. (That’s My Girl!)

Now I was what most people would consider a poor black child in a single parent home, but I was LUCKY enough to grow up poor in a wealthy town in one of the richest counties in the country where teachers actually cared and where there were resources available to me to work hard and get into college. I also had a family members who were in a position to help make life a little easier on me, but I can almost guarantee that had I grown up in a poor neighborhood that the situation would not have turned out the same. It really irks me that people think that there are no barriers in the way of people who grow up poor. Hell I’m a college graduate and im in graduate school i’m still poor and if this economy doesn’t get better and I cant find a job I will REMAIN poor even with a higher education. (But no ones going to talk about that fact.) There have been plenty of time when I have had no idea where I was getting money for food, or how I was paying for books or tuition etc. and I didn’t have mommy or daddy to call for help. Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of dollars of EDUCATIONAL DEBT I will be in by the time I finish school. Even if I get a job at least one of paychecks is going to have to go towards loan repayment for like 10 years. So even if a poor black child manages to get themselves into college it doesn’t mean that everything will then be ok.

These situations are never going to get better until these people with power, rich white people (mostly men), get off their asses and LISTEN to the people who they make policies for. Instead of pretending your a poor black child or that you sympathize with them, do some research before you make a dumb ass statement. Because the bullshit that is being spewed is NOT HELPING ANYONE.

Well thats all of a rant that I have today but Im home for christmas vacation so there will more than likely be more rants before the new year. Thats being said

Happy Holidays!!!!
